On this trip to the Big Island I’ve opted to skip diving. The main reason being, I’m not sure my ears are up for it. I suffered severe pain in both ears as a result from Whole Brain Radiation (WBR). Damn cancer treatment!
I’m sticking to snorkeling even though it’s been a bit ear-irritating in choppy waters.
Snorkeling has been quite rewarding. I’ve had some “firsts” or first time sightings and that is always exciting. (Underwater pictures to come!) My favorite was the turtle cleaning station. Basically, it’s like a drive through car wash for turtles. A sea turtle shows up in a particular area, then the cleaners show up to do their thing on the turtle shell. Impressive!
My ability to go out snorkeling is directly dependent on my swimming partner, SW. We must go slow and he must stay nearby. We have certainly learned how to be successful at this. Some of the training started when we began climbing together all those years ago. But, the best training comes from watching partners be unsuccessful. Harsh words and raised voices do not lead to good outcomes no matter what the activity. I have a dorky phrase that I sometimes say to SW, “Remember, I’m your favorite be nicest to me.” Majority of the time I say it to remind myself how I feel about him.
That was a bit of a ramble…
So beautiful!
It’s magical!
wonderful turtle photo…can’t wait to see more. I love photography but I never try underwater. I have enough to do just feeling comfortable snorkeling as it is (although I love it!)
Watching SW lug that big thing around in the water…I don’t blame you.
what type of camera did you get for the underwater? pictures always turn out fantastic!
SW has what I call a “fancy camera”. I recall his Ike Light underwater housing is for his Nikon D90. It looks like a transformer thing when the flashes are hooked up to it. See…”fancy”.
oooh. very fancy!
OOOOOooh, I want to be swimming in warm ocean water! The photo is beautiful. Can’t wait to see more and to see you guys! I hope that you’re have a fabuuuuu time! xoxoxoxo
Wonderful! Lookoing forward to more pics and stories when you get back!
