Presidents Day came and went for me this year. That is the weekend when most Portlander’s take the time to prune their roses. Not me. I don’t think the thought to take care of anything but my spotted little noggin came to mind on that particular weekend.
Well, this weekend I did it! I hacked the suckers back. Perhaps a bit too much. They will grow, right? Like my hair, that is next on the pruning list.
It felt great to play in the dirt. I’m able to help something grow and thrive. I can exert some control in my world, that frequently feels out of my hands.
Glad you were able to get outside and get dirty. And no, you can’t hack the roses down too much, you will get all new growth. xox
Great to know Melanie! I’m not a very well trained home owner yet. 🙂
You done good on the roses. Post photos of the blooms in June! I am so glad you got out and got dirty!! Your pansies in your front porch flower pot are also making a nice show. I am jealous and will have to put in some primroses and herebores in the coming weeks.
Love the Grey Poupon bit – do you get a year’s supploy for hosting and can it be used as a exfoliator in a pinch?
The pansies are loving the sun we’ve been having the last few days. I’d like to take credit for them but they’ve been looking pretty ill the last few months.
Hellebore are looking divine this time of year too! I’m so happy we included them in the backyard planting palette.
I’m not sure where your going with the grey poupon…I’m in WBR, brain is a little glitchy. 🙂
