The backyard has been getting all the attention lately. I’d like to bring that attention inward; something I like to do this time of year any hoos.
To help me dig deep inside my never-ending pit of a brain, heart, and soul, I retreat to a special place. I have a dedicated room in my not-so-large home for just me. I introduce it to people as my Yoga Room, however, this room is not just for yoga. It’s my space for me to spend quality time with me. I use the room for a range of activities from meditation to exercise. I am very fond of this special space.
Things that make this great:
- Fragrant white candles. This helps me mediate…breathing in the white healing light and exhaling the dark stagnant disease or dis-ease. The fragrance comforts me as I often have my eyes shut.
- Soft blankets. Yoga poses can be made much more comfortable with blankets.
- Special objects. Figurines, posters, cards, crystals, etc. from friends and family decorate the room. My favorites include a fairy warrior princess doll made with love from my girlfriends and a Kurt Vonnegut poster with the quote, ‘I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is’.
- No clutter. Objects that don’t belong here never get placed in this room. It looks inviting every time I walk by the room.
I encourage you all to have a similar space in your environment if you have the real estate. Taking the time to use the space, well, that is up to you!
love it! great space. !
It’s a funky space at 12.5′ by 7.5′- called Sewing Room on the original 1951 plans. I just love it and the frosted window so no one gets to watch my tippy tree pose. 🙂
looks and (based on your description) sounds perfect
Great Vonnegut quote. Prayers for you Kimmy.
Thank you Melanie for your constant good wishes.
Make it a memorable Thanksgiving!
