Shine a Light on Lung Cancer 2012

The event last Tuesday night was a success!  It was a little choppy at times but I attribute that to the organizers being a bit emotional.  Lung cancer hits close to home for them.

My favorite parts…

Survivor Jessica Steinberg took the stage to tell her lung cancer story.  She’s a young gal with lots of spunk who is up against Stage 4 cancer. Her story started off with a jaw dropper.  Jessica was in an abusive relationship; following a beating, she went to a clinic for imaging of her broken ribs.  They found a hell of a lot more than broken ribs on those images.  Her story can be read on the Chemo-sabe blog.

Lung cancer specialist Dr Sandler added bits on: lacking lung cancer funding, direction treatment is heading (towards targeted therapies), importance of second opinions, and consideration of clinical trials.

I was surrounded by the love of 24 friends, 1 family member, and 2 friends unable to attend that donated (pretty much behind my back!) to the Lung Cancer Alliance on my behalf.  ‘Team Kimmywink‘ was a force that night!

I am very motivated to do more to fight against lung cancer.  I’m not sure where to start.  Got suggestions?  Send them my way!
