The last week has been all about the backyard project. For contracting out what I thought was all the work SW and I have been quite busy completing tasks. Since I lack the energy to help for hours on end, my job has been to get supplies. Sounds easy enough but nope, it wasn’t. I had 5 days of incredibly bad timed nausea and diarrhea to work around. Now, thankfully, that seems to be under control.
My favorite errand was to the rock store. I needed round drainage rock up to 2-inches in size. Physically unable to shovel 1200 pounds of rock into the back-end of SW’s truck I had to rely on the employees at this self-serve rock store. I asked for help, explaining that my deficiency was a result of my lung cancer. I’m pretty certain that alone would have got my rocks shoveled but having brownies and peanut butter cookies for payment were an added bonus. 30-minutes later a nice guy, Steve, was done shoveling rock into the truck.
Here is an impressive to me picture- not the image but the work in it.
For a 37-foot square back yard, around 300-feet of 2 by 4’s were used to construct the concrete forms. Pretty laborious but it is going to be beautiful when the forms come off today!
I can’t wait to see this backyard. It’s going to be SO awesome. You will have a backyard warming party, right?
Yup! It will need lots of warming this time of year too.
I also can’t wait to see the finished product!!!
You and me, both!
Playing that cancer card again? Most excellent, I think I have used it 50 times in the last month when the politicians call asking for $. Glad your feeling better. Looks like SW will only need a weed wacker to cut the grass when the yard is all done. Another excellent idea.
I did it- play the cancer card that is. I did not really want to but I knew it would work. 🙂
All the grass in the back is a goner. Trees, shrubs, bulbs, berry bushes, veggies, and herbs only. My perfect back yard!
It is going to be so nice when finished. I wish I could get a couple of High School kids to come help clean out our screen house so I could sit out in it before it gets too cold. I may have to use the cancer card soon. Best of luck with the backyard. Enjoy it.
I am certain you’d find some help if you expressed your need. Maybe contact a high school counselor to see if they could connect you with some students in need of an after school activity. Just a thought…
That looks fantastic. Can’t wait to see the ‘next’ phase of construction pictures! Hope you’re out enjoying the smell of our first rain and wet leaves today. It’s absolutely delicious!
Had a long walk in the rain yesterday and LOVED it! Fall is great to me.
When do you go to Hawaii?
Friday before Thanksgiving through the Friday after T-day. We’re starting to get really excited.
I don’t know but I think an inspector was needed for your project, I see a couple issues. Is that Greg Lutes? I love reading your blog, stay strong Kimmy
Greg- yuck! That would have been horrible if he showed up at my house.
You’d be proud- I embraced the CurtO and took some pre-con photos. Although, I should have placed a measuring tape next to the existing cracks in my driveway. I suspect that they’ve grown. Maybe I should have consulted you first!
