I’ve done it alright- I’ve made a commitment to spend some money!
Spending money has never been difficult for me to do. Until recently. When the M-word was used to describe my cancer last August, I cut out frivolous spending. Things like buying designer jeans, another handbag, or anything from Anthropologie went bye-bye. It may sound ridiculous, but to me this was a dramatic purchasing change.
After many months, and cashing out one retirement account, I’ve found something important to me to spend my hard earned money on. SW and I signed a contact with Melissa at LANDline Design to develop landscape design plans for our backyard.
This next step on my life journey is quite significant in a few ways. For starters, I have found something to invest my money in. In my head I am now “worth it”. This life of mine, no matter how long, is deserving of happiness. This project is also my gift to my fantastic best friend (and husband) SW. We can both enjoy it independently or together. Most importantly, this gift will be around long after I die. I can’t say the same for the duvet cover I picked out.
That’s totally awesome, Kim, and such a great thing to do for yourselves. I hope you get much enjoyment from both the process of doing it and the result of your endeavors. I can’t wait to see your new backyard!
It will be like being a project manager all over again!
Flowers everywhere! My backyard (filled with flowers) is my favorite spot on the planet and gives me great joy and peace. Put some “Knockout” roses in the landscape. You won’t be sorry!
I love fragrant roses! We have a handful in the front yard already- they are wonderful.
I’m so glad that you decided to go ahead with the “Backyard 2.0” project! It’s so rewarding to watch everything grow and flourish.
