I am now officially off chemo! Just for a few days though.
I’ve been having a hard time swallowing food since I injured my throat last Thursday while swallowing one of my chemo pills. “Hard time” has been elevated to “horrible time”. I’m down to consuming warm liquids only. (I’m having August pain flashbacks!)
Dr L’s orders are to put my cancer fighting energy on hold and focus all efforts on repairing my injured throat.
My first reaction to this was, “No! I don’t want to stop taking my chemo! I need it to live!” This is true. But more importantly, I want to live a life that I can eat normally, drink normally, and not take pain pills 24-hours a day that make me sleep 20-hours of the day.
Fortunately, I am a lucky one who can drop chemo pills for a few days to allow my throat to heal.
The burned throat is not an identified side effect of my chemo pill. However, the pill may still be the cause in my body because, drumroll please, everyone is different! (I still hate that phrase.) When I restart, my dose will be reduced by half and increased slowly to find the right balance for me. I’ll be sure to post a short message when I begin my chemo pills again.
