Thank you to everyone who has been sending me their positive thoughts for my big “get the results day”. I am finally ready to tell you all that I was given the results last Wednesday. (When your oncologist calls you at 7:13 am 7 days before you are supposed to get your test results you should be alarmed.)
My PET scan showed that the cancer in my left lung and nearby lymphs is nearly all gone. I’m showing what my oncologists believe to be a false positive in my upper left lung. The belief is that the activity showing up is the lung repair from the damage caused by the radiation.
The concerning part of the PET scan is that it showed a new infected area, my right adrenal gland and nearby lymphs. The kind of lung cancer I have is known to travel to the adrenal gland.
The next step is to collect more data on the cancer in my adrenal gland. A surgeon will perform a biopsy by inserting a needle into my back to obtain “material”. This procedure is yet to be scheduled.
The “material” characteristics will determine what kind of chemotherapy treatment I begin next.
More details will come as I know them.
Thank you to the following folks who helped me get through the last 5 uber-shitty days:
